Your first driving lesson will be on quiet roads in Farnham, you will learn how to get the car moving and how to stop. We will teach you how to turn left and right at junctions and when you are ready to progress, we will move onto busier roads. Most of your driving lessons will be in Farnborough where you will learn everything there is to know about driving on busier roads.
You will need to present your provisional licence on your first lesson, so make sure it is valid and has the correct name and address. You will also need a check code from the DVLA website, so your instructor can check for any faults or convictions. We will provide you with full instructions and links for you to follow in an email before your lesson.
Set aside a regular time for your lessons. At LetsDrive we like to offer our pupils a regular weekly lesson. This helps to keep your learning consistent and means that you are not disappointed when there are no slots available with your instructor. We can book you in for your regular slot for 12 weeks in advance. We don’t ask you to pay for all 12 lessons up front, but we do ask that you keep your account balance to 3 weeks in advance. Remember this is a new life skill and will require regular weekly practice.
Don’t drink too much caffeine before your lesson. Caffeine can increase anxiety and any toilet breaks will eat into your lesson time. If you have a morning lesson, then it is also unwise to drink alcohol the night before.
Come to the lesson with a positive mental attitude. Remember almost everyone manages to pass their test. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you are finding it tough. Learning to drive can be hard for some people and everyone learns at a different pace. We are incredibly patient and understanding with our pupils and are always on your side. We want you to become good, safe drivers and will do everything we can to support you. Remember to laugh at your mistakes and not get frustrated by them. Our vehicles are equipped with dual controls and driving instructors are trained to keep you safe. So, relax and enjoy your learning.
Wear comfortable clothing and sensible shoes, no boots, heels or flip flops please. Bring something to drink, specs and your phone. If possible, leave bags and coats at home or in your lockers.
In between lessons it is highly recommended that you keep a reflective diary. Keep it brief by just asking yourself 3 questions. What went well? What didn’t go so well? And what can I do to improve? Try to work on learning more about these things before your next lesson.
Ask your instructor questions, don’t be embarrassed about any questions. There’s no such thing as a stupid question. Our driving instructors are fully trained and registered with the DVSA. They are all DBS checked and constantly vetted so you can relax and enjoy your learning.
Start your theory and hazard perception study as soon as you start your practical lessons, if not before. You do not want to be in the situation where you are test ready but haven’t passed your driving theory test. If you have any questions, please ask your instructor.
